There is enough money in the state coffers to educate fully and properly every child if the
legislators wanted, but that is not their priority. There are other things which properly need to
be funded; specifically, the court system and peace officers. Everything else is optional, and
yet they throw the schools peanuts while funding plush retirement incomes for themselves for
what is supposed to be a part-time job and a personal sacrifice of service to the community.

Music education, along with other fine arts and cultural programs, is a vital part of educating
a well-rounded individual who will become a contributing member of our society. The failure of
the legislature to provide money for them is not the fault of the people who protested. It is
the fault of the legislature that knows that education is the one thing the people almost
universally support. They know they can cut almost anything else and there will be no
screams or howls of protest, so they fund those things fully and justify their demand for more
of your hard-earned money because there is not enough left over for education.
