I don't agree with any of JJJ's posts, in any way. But apparently there was a parallel stripe of thinking somewhere in the lump of grey goop between my ears I've been using in lieu of a brain all these years. Here's what it got me:
A girl I'd been getting closer and closer to recently had also been casually going out with other people, including one guy who turned out to be extremely verbally abusive. She knew she had had enough of this, but went out with him one more time the other day. He was even more verbally abusive than before, to a level I thought was way out of bounds.
She had called me to vent about it. I got angry, and the moment I got off the phone with her I looked up this guy's number, called him and told I was going to beat on him if this ever happened again (In what little defense I'm entitled to, let me point out that I did not say, "Stay away from her", but rather "don't ever treat her that way again.")
Two minutes after I made the call, I knew it was a huge, stupid mistake. Now she doesn't know if or when she'll want to speak with me again. Her position is not in defense of him; but rather that she will be affected by the falloutshe and her brother are friends with the guy's sister. And this is already prompting this guy to call her again, something she doesn't want now.
In other words, I made things a lot worse rather than better. And I did it all because I was stupid and rash and arrogant and thoughtless and self-absorbed with my own anger.
Anyone who appoints themselves the protector of those they arrogantly deem helpless and the arbiter of how society (and other people's lives ) should be run is fucking up. Our favorite poster, JJJ, is guilty of this. And unfortunately, I was too.

Who is to say you've made some huge mistake here?

I don't think you have, man. In fact, perhaps it was indeed the right thing to do. No... what I wonder is if the girl is worth keeping around. The bottom line is if you're a special kind of man then you deserve to be treated in a special kind of way. I'll be damned if I'll be a door mat for any woman. You said she USED to date you and is now casually going out with others? But yet she's still giving you the day to day rundown on her romantic life?

I fail to see where you've made a big social mistake here,
and in fact perhaps it was the right thing to do. But truthfully, if you KNOW that you were a great boyfriend to her, and that in all actuality she should still be going out with only you-- then WHY stand to be relegated to the 'also ran' category?

Sometimes it is best to walk. Ya never know, man. Sometimes they follow....

But my paradigms about violence against women being a crucial issue n America society has NOTHING to do with what you've been going thru.

The issue is REAL, and the stats are there to PROVE I am right, from molestation statistics to date rape data, from stalking and domestic violence, to abduction rape murder, sexual harrassment and more.

Here's something to really consider, though. What if this guy had been MORE than verbally abusive to her? You may have just had your first experience in dealing with a girl who just got the hell beat out of her by a really bad man.

I never have 'appointed myself a protector' at all; I KNOW there's too much violence against girls and women, and I AM doing something about it in the VRM.

Best of luck with whatever ya do, but don't blame me for wanting a safer world, ok? :)

Young women love drama. They don't gather much excitement and personal fulfillment through their careers, so they do it through their relationships. This call to you is very indicative of a woman trying to amplify the drama she is having with this other male. Also remember that women often communicate to have their feelings validated, NOT to move toward creating a solution to their problem. Taking action is often the worst thing you could do.

There you go, dickhead. Look, there are two things chicks want in this world (well, three, counting yours truly), security and excitement. On one hand they're looking for somebody who can take care of them and protect them like Daddy; on the other, they're looking for that tattooed crank dealer who's on the dangerous side. Somebody to get their motor running. If you can figure out the right balance for that, you got it made.

But one thing you should never, ever do is get in the way of a chick and a guy she's mad at but keeps hanging around. Because she's got that insane chick thing going on with him. My guess is it's some kind of pheromone bonding thing. Us guys have something similar, and it causes us to end up lifting refrigerators up six flights of stairs and stuff like that, just on the off chance... you know. Very bad odds. Anyway, if a chick and a guy happen to get hooked up in something like that, you would be safer getting between a momma bear and her cubs. You'll get the crap kicked out of you from both sides every time.

So what you gotta do is this. Whether you admit it or not, you wouldn't take the kind of action you did unless you have some feelings for this chick. Some idle fantasy that something might... you know. Anyway, you gotta get her out of your brain! You gotta sit yourself down and tell yourself that as cute as she may be, she's a grown up, and she's got herself in this other stupid relationship, and as stupid as you think it is, that's her business and she's the stupid one for putting up with it, and concentrate on every stupid thing she's done. The you go out and get yourself a new chick to think about and just let that other one sink. Just like Leo DiCaprio in Titanic. So long, Betty Lou, you stupid little whore!

There are plenty of good women around. And if you think you can't find any -- LOWER YOUR STANDARDS! Just who the hell do you think you are?

Just for the record, I think you missed a few things. I do have feelings for her, and I don't consider them to be "idle fantasies." I wasn't trying to disgise my intentions in any way.
Second, I've known this girl for a while, much longer than him, and I'm pretty fond of her, probably to a fault. (The word "recently" in my post referred to the deepening of our relationship, not to the length of our acquaintance.) The idea that he'll "kick the crap out of me" is...highly, highly unlikely.

Maybe that's what confusing me. Are you two "dating?" Or is she "dating" this other guy? Because from the earlier post it sounded like one of those, "she feels free to unload on you emotionally and parade her messy sex life in front of you and you're going home to pound your pud" kinda deals.

: Second, I've known this girl for a while, much longer than him,

Just how "deep" are you getting in this relationship? Because if you're not getting "deep deep" you'd still be better off putting your time and energy INto a chick who is putting OUT. Unless you're one of those guys who thinks someday their friendship with a hot chick is going to turn into some great headboard cracking relationship. Good luck with that one, pal. Still better odds in Vegas.

: The idea that he'll "kick the crap out of me" is...highly,

Whatever, tough guy. But you sound like a sucker to me, no offense, 'cause man I been there and learned the hard way. Just trying to pass along what I learned to spare you some grief.

I think the wording on my post was pretty clear; you were the only respondent who found it difficult to grasp. Further, I didn't include every detail of my relationship with this girl because it would a)be too long and b)dilute the larger meaning of the post. In other words, you know even less about the situation than you demonstrated. And that's a lot.
And while I'm sure you are incredibly sage and know everything there is to know about women, you are hardly the only one who has "been there." It's just that some of us "go there" more often than others, whatever "go there" or "been there" means.
Finally, your post was littered with a very puzzling mixture of uncalled-for facetiousness and snideness ("tough guy". Boy, that was cutting.) and alleged cynical wisdom, none of which seemed either clever or enlightening. How can anyone take someone who posts as "God's Gift to Women" seriously? Please don't post again until you have something cogent and worthwhile--or at least vaguely amusing--to say.

So I'll take that as a "no." You ain't getting any from this chick. Yeah, it's a sad story, real common. What do you want to bet this chick and the guy she hates (or someone amazingly like him) will be knocking boots again real soon?

> Please don't post again until you have something cogent
> and worthwhile--or at least vaguely amusing--to say.

So you're telling this other guy to shut up, now you're telling me to shut up. Do I detect a pattern here? I think so.

Well answer me this then, answer man. Why did you put your little sob story up here in the first place? I'll tell you, pal. It's basically because you wanted to show the chicks on the board what a strong, supportive kind of guy you are; cause guys always got a line in the water. It's our nature. You did all this self-deprication and rolled over and showed your belly and you pointed out the difference between you and JJJ so you could present yourself as sensitive but not a kook like Trip J. And you got some pretty good responses, too. Some chicks here got right in with you. You got a couple of strokes.

But when I pop in and shine a light on the REAL issue, suddenly who gets all defensive? Suddenly playing the poor idiot who so graciously admits he was "stupid and rash and arrogant and thoughtless" doesn't sit so good. That confirms to me that your self-deprication was a load. A little play act. And that you're as stupid, rash, arrogant and thoughtless as ever and you didn't learn any great lesson from your experience, you just say you did because you thought it might mean some extra tookie points for you.

So hey, forget I said anything. Marry this nutty chick for all I care. That'll teach you a real lesson.

And just because a guy posts under the name of "Gods Gift to Women" doesn't mean he ain't read a lot about (or have a degree related to) intrapersonal dynamics, social psychology and human sexuality.

"Extra tookie points?" Not sure what the hell that is, but it sure sounds ridiculous. I do not, nor have I ever, used the internet to "earn points" with women. (I've never personally met anyone, m or f, from online interaction.) I posted because I was upset and wanted to vent.
And I didn't judge your knowledge based on your posting name; I judged your knowledge based on your overall post, which was filled with snideness, cliche, mindless pop psychology and general assholishness. Your posting name only revealed your arrogance and insensitivity. If you do indeed have a degree in "interpersonal dynamics" (which I seriously doubt), you wasted your parents' money, because you have all the insight into male-female relationships of a Penthouse letters section.
Finally, I didn't tell you to shut up. I asked you politely not to post, because you don't have anything constructive to say. And you're a moron.

I disagree. I can understand it making some situations worse, but this guy deserved an ass-kicking. And I agree with Plum, if she was upset by your attempt to look out for her, then she doesn't deserve you. Another idea: She is still stuck in the situation. She is blind to reality becasue she is too close to it. If she is truly your friend, stick by her through the worst of it, she will be thankful to have you when it all falls apart. It's likely, even, that she feels very embarrassed about the situation and her anger to you is simply misplaced because she feels her life is out of control.

It's a sign of mental and emotional weakness (and a little thing called assault) for anybody to beat anybody else up, male or female. So no, it's not okay. I'm a lover, not a fighter.

a sign of mental and emotional weakness ???

no your wrong! altough society deems it unacceptable (and rightly so), the ability and the want to lash out and hurt and especially the need to defend those whom we deem close to us, is something that is in us all. some of us like myself are unfortunatly more in touch with these emotions and feelings of anger.

the mental weakness is when you see (be you man or woman) this action taking place and do nothing to stop it.

I wish someone would have called my ex and threatened to kick his ass next time he touched me. Coming to the aid of someone's defense doesn't make you a "fuck up." It's what you choose to do to help and how that person accepts the aid. SInce your friend MAY lack a lot of self esteem and self worth...concluded because you said she has returned to this person numerous times knowing he is abusive...she is trying to find a reason why you should not have tried to defend her because she doesn't think she is worthy of being defended. Do you get what I'm saying? She'll talk to you eventually. Arrogantly deeming someone helpless and attempting to come to the aid of someone are two totally different things.

you did the right thing, Angie...

Angie, you did the right thing, and you found
out that domestic violence is real, and it
happened to you. Many women are SHOCKED the
first time it happens to them, and guys can
have a way of blaming the girl for the event,
which is NEVER justifiable.

Here's a web page which will tell you
a lot about domestic violence.

You might want to print it out and
take it to work. Read it several times.
It represents good research and good
data from the USDOJ.

I was talking to a guy at work the other
day, and he was surprised to find out
that one of our femme co-workers was
assaulted when she went to the post
office. The guy took her purse and stole
her money, knocking her out as he went.
YET ANOTHER girl we work with has been
molested, and yet he might not even know that.

I think he does, but I haven't asked him about
it.

I KNOW that she was, because I know her
pretty well. So now, since he has been here
to read the blab, he knows a girl who was
a crime victim of aggravated assault, a
poster who was a victim of domestic
violence, and a molestation victim.

As I have told many folks around, there's
a FINE LINE that seperates those who
HAVE BEEN victimized and those who haven't been.

I never thought my cousin would get
murdered and that I'd be a pallbearer,
either...ya know?

Hold your shoulders back-- you did the RIGHT THING.

Thank You JJJ

It's amazing the people that have been abused and/or assaulted. I NEVER EVER thought it could happen to me. I am way too independent and way too intelligent to LET a man (or anyone for that matter) hurt me, but it happened. I sometimes think things happen for a reason, either good or bad. I'm not sure of the message God was trying to send me, but HE sure sent one. The good thing about being a strong human being though is the ability to be resiliant and learn how to get over it. People often think that because of what Bruce did to me that I don't trust men anymore. That's not true. Unlike most domestic assault survivor's my end feelings and resentments are different. I refuse to let him ruin it for every other man. I love men. I love their manliness, men are great creatures! Physically and mentally...I really do enjoy men and I'm not chauvenistic at all. I relish chivalry and I am not a feminazi by any stretch of the word. What the experience did leave me with though was a serious doubt and mistrust in MY OWN judgement. That it was MY FAULT. I LET this happen. I allowed him to treat me like that. I don't blame it all on Bruce because I NEVER gave him any real initiative or fear to make him want to quit, except my undying love and adoration. But for some people that's not good enough. I still feel very sorry for Bruce. I feel sorry for him because he learned absolutely nothing. He still abuses all kinds of drugs and narcotics and he still abuses alcohol aND he is now surrounded by no one who cares enough to intervene. He is surrounded by others just like him and he will not get help. Bruce IS better than that and now he will never know it. That's what I think is sad and why I feel sorry for him.
