Closing the Washington Monument

The big story, by Rebecca Ferrar with help from the ubiquitous Paula Wade of the Commercial Appeal, is about Sundquist's planned budget cuts. One big goof in the story: it refers to the budget passed as the "bare bones" budget. Actually, the "bare bones" budget was the one that would have taken effect if the veto had not been overridden.

This story doesn't say, but implies, that Sundquist is trying to make the cuts as painful as possible to bolster the case for an income tax. Is he? The story (or a followup) should say.

BTW, Jessefox, great column on the Sentinel today. But if you're not careful with stuff like that, people will start thinking you're me.
