Why oh why do I still get goddamn Rolling Stone? I don't pay for it, never have. It's a gift from an asshole that thinks everyone in his "fold" should read it. I guess he's fucking Jann or something. Anyway, I've written, called, faxed and emailed them to remove me from their mailing list but shit, I still get the damn thing. I guess I'm just going to have to keep recycling them. The point? Oh, yes. Well, "emo" is fucking dead. Was it ever really "alive?" I mean, come the fuck on. Shit. Also, David Garza? That little asshole was pitching himself on those horrible "Best Buy" commercials like four years ago and now he's shed his faux metal stance and become the darling of the "hip" set? That's a fucking laugh! Which brings me to Pete Yorn. He should think about changing his last name to Yawn. I mean, fuck! The only reason that greasy headed slack is on a label is because his brother is a fucking exec! Come on! Wake up! I get so tired of the force feeding that is going on with our culture today. Whitney Houston gets poor Clive Davis to fork out 100 million dollars and shit, she couldn't sell more than fifty thousand records today if she put her own homegrown in it! I'm serious! Hell, why am I saying that? You know it's true. Shit, Janet Jackson! Yes! There is another one! She keeps having to cancel dates on her tour because of health issues, first it was that the sound gear got snagged in customs so the kick off date had to be cancelled and then it was some tooth problem and now it's the flu! BULLSHIT! Ain't nobody buying tickets to see her! That's the real reason they keep punting her dates! There ain't no asses in the seats! And Madonna blew out her East Rutherford NJ show the other day for the same damn reason! And what do we hear on ET? She had the flu! BULLSHIT!
When does the revolt start? When do we as the consumers and supporters of the "arts" stand up and make them stop this shit? FUCK! Then. Then I just happen to flip channels on a dark shade of Sunday night and see that those damn retreads the Go-Go's are on VH1 and then some damn Irish Red drinking lad claims that "they are the originals!" I almost fucking lost it. The Go-Go's aren't the originals, shit, hasn't he heard of the Runaways or, God forbid, any Motown girl group? I hope so. Jesus. I do not think I'm too extreme. There is more. Maybe later I'll share it too.

Well contribute the Rolling Stone issue to a library I guess. Or maybe a club. Hmmm...Reading materials in clubs could be a worhty cause.

Or just throw it away.

As for revolt and stuff...Personally if I don't like a paticular type of music or artist I just don't think about them. There doing what there doing and I'm doing what I'm doing and there's no reason either of us should stop.

I mean the thing about shit is if you just flush, it eventually goes away.

Jesus Dung! Don't you recycle? You really should. Think about that. You should recycle all that worthless garbage you collect. Now, what is this about a club with reading materials? I like that idea. How could we do it? I see it now. Large chairs constructed out of the hides of dead animals and rugs with fibers stolen from living creatures. We could like the walls with every time of book, newspaper, magazine, leaflet, handbill and journal we could find. Oh, it would be a far nicer world with an exclusive reading room filling it. It would be like my beloved McClung Collection but you could drink beverages and maybe the occasional Gitane without those narrow Ossoli Circle tea sippers watching ever move you make. We could have Katherine Gates come by when she's in town and give a talk on the merits of reading and taking what you have learned from it and apply it to your everyday life! Smashing! We wouldn't have to flush or recycle our materials anymore. We could just collect and read and re read and look at the pretty pictures and smoke in our pajamas and sit around and explore the sheets of paper. That would be grand. Think about it. Where could we house such a collection? I think maybe somewhere outside of "downtown" (why the fuck do we still call it that? It hasn't been the "CBD" in over fifty fucking years!) if it were there it might be in danger of becoming torn down to make way for something of use. Well, it would be of use to us so fuck them! I say we locate it near the corner of Morrell and Westland. Right across from that Baptist Association building. That way when we are finished with our mind expansion we can stroll out onto the concrete and pull our pants down and moon the zealots congregating there.

And another thing. I blame the goddamn hippies for the DEATH of live music. Think about it! If it weren't for the damn dirty hippies there would still be many clubs with live music to enjoy in every city of the world. Now, I know some of the more myopic posters will argue that live venues are still thriving but, but they are wrong and that, that is BULLSHIT. You ask, "But Scary, how did the hippies kill live bands?" Well Junior, let me tell you a little story. The year was 1967 and the hippies were tired of the status quo so they decided to start these goddamn "freak out" festivals. Well, Bill Graham said, "shit yeah!" and booked some lame talent like the Warlock, Big Brother and Q.S.M.S. not to mention Electric Flag and the Airplane and maybe the African Ballet thingy. Anyway, those stoned damn hippies couldn't concentrate with all that nooooiiise so they started playing records which bloomed into what we now know as DISCOS! Fucking discos. With a garlic aroma that could level Tacoma! So here they are freaking to a DJ spinning platters by Nektar and such. It wasn't too long before that you could go to the same spaces that housed these damn halls of lycra and see a real live band playing real live music. Fucking hippies. I blame Bill Graham too now. He is far worse than Rolling Stone. All Rolling Stone ever did was ruin our delivered culture. Billy boy ruined our live culture. Think about this, if it weren't for Bill Graham we would have never had Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Papa John Creech, QSMS, Ten Years After, The Dead, Fucking mimes, Phish, Widespread, hippies and all that goddamn damn druggie bullshit. I could go on, and just might later. I've got to smoke in my pajamas first.

Further more, the death of music in general came about at this time as well. We once had many, many artists that had fucking talent. Jerry Lee Lewis springs to mind. When the fuck was is decided that that fat ass everyone loves, Elvis, was the "King of rock and roll?" Was that some self proclaimed moniker? Who voted on that? I want to know! Jerry Lee Lewis is and always has been the King of rock and roll! Little Richard is the Queen! I am not fucking kidding. Perry Farrell couldn't hold Pat Boone's dick, although he might want to. And speaking of falling off of the talent wagon, Joe Strummer ain't shit without Mick Jones. "Cut The Crap" was the first album in a fifteen year span that shouldn't have been released by him. Who the hell does he think he's kidding living in that damn tent. Didn't he hear? The war is over! So what we have is a long period in our history where people jumped on bands because their buddys did and shit, they wanted to be cool too! I mean, come on! Who the hell is buy GBV cds? The PHANTOM CONSUMER? Who buys this shit? How the hell did we allow this farce to go this far. This ruse, lark, what the hell ever. it's time to stop this silly shit. It's time to look at the hellish reality of the situation and make some changes. I say we nominate and elect Junior Brown to the Don Rich Hall of Fame! I say we carry a banner for someone to commision a bust in the likeness of Johnny Rivers to be placed in that hell hole known as Market Square! Since when does a David Garza "bootleg" warrant can space at the Disc Exchange? Also, what the hell is up with Nikka Costa? Who the hell signed her? Jeeezus. Bring back Jerry Reed! Bring back Peter and Gordon! Chad and Jeremy! Santo and Johnny! We must climb out of this cesspool of talentless fucks and get firm entertainment. I mean, fuck! In a world where those fucking teen drones can sell forty-six trillion records, jam with Aerosmith at the Super Bowl and take up rack space at Borders while Harlan Howard walked broke down 2nd looking for just a little something to get him by! There is no justice. There is no higher power. All we have left is asshole punks that the world cries for when they hit rehab because they can't handle the fucking fame! I blame Bill Graham. He's the one that started jamming shit acts down people's throats while they were fucking high and couldn't understand that they were being fucked. Look where it's gotten us. Christ.

I would have to say that blaming the hippies steers the focus of the argument away from where the meat is, and that's MONEY. While never illegal, payola has gone from being frowned upon as unethical to simply the way business is done in the radio industry. There's a reason why the radio playlists are filled with pure crap, and it can be found in the offices of record companies in Orlando. With no heavy industry to dominate, the drug money fueled companies that scour Disney World, etc., for young singing talent have decided to flood the airwaves with their bland disco crap. It's not that hard, really. Here you've got a lot of fat, bloated programming guys barely making enough salary from their penny-pinching media conglomerates to make the lease payments on their Beemers, and up rolls a 2nd generation Cuban with a briefcase full of clean cash and some promo CDs of their latest boy band. Guess who gets the cash and guess who gets screwed out of an opportunity to hear something thought-provoking on the radio while waiting in the Wendy's drive through? That's why college radio is so important. Radio airspace that can't be bought? What a concept. That's why it's so depressing to find young programmers who only want to mimic the commercial stations. I don't blame Bill Graham. I blame AOL /Time /Warner /Virgin /Microsoft /Scripps /Wal*Mart /etc.

Yes, I blame the colleges of this country for turning out total fucking idiots. Where the hell is it written that we must corrupt our young talent pool? Where? I'm telling you this, and you'll believe me later, there is no excuse for the shit they get away with. We take these poor kids, those Cock Rock bastards spring to mind, and show them the WRONG way to do it. We show them it's okay to break the FCC's regulations so when they get out in the world of AM radio and that slick bastard with a pocket full of blow and a limo full of hookers doesn't mean anything wrong to them. They can't see the reality of what they are doing so we end up with crap on the radio. I can also see a problem where their buddys swing by the station late on a Saturday afternoon while in route to one of those totems for homosexual contact known as football games to give them a CD of the latest demo in exchange for a beer after the game. That's still fucking wrong. That is forcing the public to recieve crap unwillingly. That is payola but they aren't taught that is wrong so they fucking do it thinking that they are above the regulations. It is the public's airwave, not theirs. I blame you. I blame the State, I blame the City, I blame Bill Graham. I blame every single person that has short changed the buying public with crap. I blame the whole lemming like nature of today's consumer. I think that we should as a people become individuals and stop glomming onto what we are told is cool. Fuck cool. Fuck indie cred. Fuck all that fucking posing and shifting about. When did we as a people decide that we were going to follow the asshole in front of us. I can think of three hundred concerts that only had some asses in the seats because one dicksmack said, "hey man, I'm going to check out XYZ because they are fucking cool and the band to see," you know what? They were wrong. If you think you're not conforming you're fucking wrong. You're a goddamn lemming just 'cause you jumped on that bandwagon with all the other nonconformists. I could be wrong, but that's what I've been told. Now, if you'll excuse me we're about to the edge of the cliff.

What was that? You wish to speak about bookstores? I can certainly do that. I am a very frequent visitor to the various bookstores in the metro area. The one thing that pisses me off about the book stores in and around Knox County, as well as the ones that line the streets in sunny Southern California and elsewhere is that they don't ever have what the hell I am looking for. Take for example last night. I went to Borders, that fine last outpost for all that is fucking strange, to find a book on the care of axolotls. No fucking dice. Oh well, I'll just move over one row to the automobile section and look for some books on Porsches, well they had those, but only the books that would capture the attention of a seven year old boy. Then, then I searched the music section (don't even get me started on that hell hole!) for the "Down From The Mountain" cd a pal of mine asked me to pick up. NOWHERE! They didn't fucking have it! Also, the periodicals are always fucking late! Always! Do you think that they know that the release date on those things are time sensative? They are to be on the racks first thing Tuesday morning! NOPE! The last few months when I go in on Tuesday morning for my weekly fix of "True Crime" the cart is there stacked with magazines, journals, leaflets and such but the asshole that is supposed to be racking them is over at the "help" desk trying to talk the pants off of that little cutie I've had my eye on. So rather than waiting (I have tried that. Took the fat bastard over seven hours to get his dick out of his mouth and rack the damn books and even then they were'nt the right damn ones.) I kicked over the damn cart. Fuck him. So anyway, I wandered into the "art" section looking for a nice relaxing book to take my mind off of the lack of any real selection at that "category killer" but all they had was picture books documenting the history of ladies handbags. SHIT! Nowhere could I find anything on Jon By God Langford! NOTHING! Then, oh yes, then I walked over to the "music" section looking for a book on dobro technique and OH MY GOD! They had Marty Stuart's book, "Pilgrim (Heroes, Saints and Sinners) wedged in between "Arlen Roth's Finger Picking Basics" and "Your First Blowjob After Your Sister's Piano Recital!" So I freed the lovely book, which is jam packed with pictures of all that is good in this world of music, and ran the hell out of the store before I had a chance to enjoy the lovely clerk behind the counter and her advances toward me. Shit. She was a damn hottie too. Oh well, there will always be next week. If I have the patience. I think I'll go buy a Guns and Roses CD at Walmart.

Speaking of "elusive" Mr. Gene, I think maybe I could share some information on the pesky JJJ situation. After reading the countless sites that I access through your "home" site every morning I realized he might not know the "safe word" "tomato." Maybe he just got too wrapped up in his own drama play and felt it was time to let go and explore the other site of victim's rights. Hell, I don't know. Take for example the letter I got the other day. Someone doesn't like the fact that I keep my grass at exactly 11 inches in length. The City and County have some silly bullshit resolution (which has been beaten by Karl Myer, a resident of Davidson County at this point) that states no yard or lawn may be over 12 inches in height. I called them people today and explained that I had measured my grass and it was not over 11 inches so therefore they could, yes, that's right, eat my corn. Fuck that. What the hell? This isn't Russia. Is it? It might be. If certain people aren't really careful I might just keep my lawn this length but, yes, there is always a but, kill it so it's all brown and ugly. That would chap the asses of the goddamn yuppie Honda, Volkswagen, Oldsmobile and other assorted shitty car drivers in this suburb of shame. I have just had a revelation! I will measure the grass and when it reaches 11.8450 inches in height I will spray "SPIKE" on it so it's growth will be stunted at 11.9925 inches! HA! I WIN! TAKE THAT CRIME FIGHTER!
