Has anyone else noticed how the great majority of persons posting here have zero, I repeat, ZERO taste in music.

The White Stripes? I wish someone would buy those damn love birds a one way ticket back to fucking Deetroit!

Jim White? Met him on the Gulf last Summer. Hell of a guy but a lousy musician. I guess when you've bombed out at every other job in the area and spent some time as the state's guest you kinda seem to look for an easy way to cash in. Well, I would still skim board the 'Dune with him anytime. Might even pick a few Claude King tunes with him too.

Ah yes, which brings us back to Superdrag! I noticed the other day that the winner of some "Battle of the Bands" around here will get the fine chance to expand their fan base by opening a show for these fine fellows. They might want to reconsider allowing said winner to play for they might get a major label deal and shame the 'Drag boys into some honest labor.

Folks, I've said it before a million times. I think it's time I refresh your memory. Superdrag ripped off Weezer. Pure and simple.

Like the original lyrics to their song says, "Who ripped off Weeeeeeeezer?" "Who ripped off Weeeeeezer?"

*At least that what I hear everytime that's on the radio (which isn't happening anymore here or anywhere else.*

.sorry. :(

I just love your obsession with the Drag. Not a lot of discussion about them here while you were on hiatus. I'm becoming convinced that there must be some jealousy involved.

I'm sure they're about as offended by your remarks as you will be when I say the I think that Scaramanga sucks.

Jack White. It's Jack White. Jim White's the other guy, David Byrne's pet project. White Stripes is Jack and Meg White. They're good. Your Superdrag obsession I cannot comment on.

Allow me, JFM. Here's a quick recap:

Superdrag, who are currently on tour in support of their third critically acclaimed album, playing to people across the country who enjoy their music: 1

Scaramanga, who is pissed off because he's never been in a band as good as Superdrag and he never will be: 0

Any questions?

Another brilliant retort from the undisputed King Of Pea-Brained Rock Criticism.

On the contrary, I think the Superdrag stuff is well worth checking out. I'll say the same for Guided By Voices and The Pixies, two other entries on your list of bands that "suck." You've got alot to learn about Rock'N'Roll.

By the way, when you mentioned the possibility that Superdrag might be shamed into some "honest labor", I couldn't help wondering: what do you call touring in a van nine months out of the year? Of course, you wouldn't know anything about that, since you obviously have some job that enables you to spend your eight-hour workday posting on MetroBlab. Congratulations.

couldn't have said it better myself. i used to be a superdrag detractor, then i started really listening to them. even though they are very derivative, they're just damn talented and the music's catchy, not original or groundbreaking.
unfortunately, people like "scramanga" are too consumed by jealousy to admit that. i bet he's not even IN a band.
like they say, "those who can, do. those who can't, teach. and those who can do neither, criticize."
oh, and his eight hour workday IS posting on metroblab. how much could that pay?

Well, Jess, let's clear a few small things up so your liberal little brain doesn't explode from all that swimming.

Superdrag has taken subpar musical talent and stretched it as far as it can go. They were a bad niche genre band ten years ago, they are a bad niche genre band today. Does any radio station in town play them in regular rotation? See, I must be on to something then. If they were as good as you and all their other "Tommy"esque groupies there would be one commercial station playing them in regular rotation, recurrents, gold and current. There isn't. Hmmm, seems that Scary is tapping the point nail into the board with a giant hammer. As for how much playing on the internet could pay, let's just say that line 40 on my schedule X would make you consider becoming an internet cynic too.

Well, Bobby, if you must know I listen to a very wide variety of music. The thing that puts me into an entire different spectrum from your average music listener is that what I listen to stands up to the test of time. I don't waste my time getting into bands that just plain suck and have small followings of lemmings just latching on to impress someone with their lack of taste and knowledge of music.

What do I listen to? Here is a small sampling:

Charlie Mingus
The Clash
Lou Reed
Cheap Trick
Los Lobos
Black Crowes
Marc O'Connor
Willie Nelson
Johnny Cash
Buck Owens
Les McCann
Roland Kirk
Al Dimeola
Gonzolo Rublicaba
Richie Havens
Elliot Smith
Steeley Dan
Flaming Lips
Nina Simone
Alarm
Shirley Bassey
Jane's Addiction
Lenny Kravitz
Peter Gabriel
Squeeze
Wilco
and many many more

but, but, it must be a personal thing...

Re:

Posted by Smootz ® , Aug 01,2001,09:09   MetroBlab

Because

1) Your main bitch about Superdrag is that they are derivative, unoriginal, stealing or however you phrase it on a given day.

2) Several of your favorite bands are unashamedly derivative. Kravitz, Black Crowes, Squeeze, etc.

If you can tolerate it from your faves but slag the shit out of our local boys, then you must have a personal thing going against them.

It's your privilege to dislike anyone you want but your Superdrag snit ain't related to the music.

Lenny Kravitz? Well, we all have our dirty little secrets. Glad to see the Alarm, though. I loved them so much when I was 13 that I still love them today, even though they're kinda cheesy and silly:
"68 Guns!
Where Were You Hiding When the Storm Broke?
Come on down and meet your maker, come on down and make the stand!"

All their songs need heavy punctuation, mostly exclamation points. You know another record of that era that I think holds up even better? The first Big Country album. Fucking rocks. In a tweedly Scottish way.

Staying power??? Jesus, has he done anything but TV commercial soundtracks in the last 20 years?

And Mark freakin O'Conner? He's like the Yngwie Malmsteen of bluegrass music. If god forbid you have to listen to "Fiddle God" types, it ought to be Sam Bush all the way, man.

Hey,

I can get a few Little City Chickadees anywhere you want 'em, most any time, guy. The waitresses are the most reliable party girls, but I'm usually too busy demoralizing the hostesses to bother with 'em, myself.

Speaking of which, you weren't in today, were you?

A couple sat in my section, the man carrying a six-day-old Metro Pulse. (Immediately, I thought, "Scaramanga?") He ordered the Bistro Chicken and I nearly asked him if he was in radio (or if he had a Panda suit in the car).

P.S. If it was you, thanks for the $. Hope the service was to your liking--the manager was riding my ass all day, making work impossible. If it wasn't you, why the hell wasn't it??? Ask for McNeeley.
