Isn't that about what the WW project would require but result in more improvements spread out more around town (which I am not saying is better or worse)?
In either case, I think it is ridiculous to tear down a 20 year old hotel/convention center/office building that is right next to the new convention center. Especially if it can be updated and you have a developer willing to invest his own actual money in it.
Floating these large bankruptcy bonds for these projects, though, seems foolish. If it is such a great idea that will make money, then Marriott or Holiday Inn or whoever should be willing to make more of the investment, or their franchisees in the case of Haney. I think he said at one point he was willing to invest $60 million, but I don't recall him saying where it would come from. Maybe he is going to get Chattanooga to float some Haney Bonds?
