Caveat emptor, y'all

Once again: Be sure to look carefully at the names at the top of posts.

For example, "JuIias" looks like "Julias," especially if your browser displays Blab posts in sans-serif type. That's a capital "i" in the first one, not a lower-case "L."

The "G-ene" one is pretty obvious, I think. "G.ene" might have been a slightly more subtle pick.

It's only obvious if you're using a Mac. Clever hack though, whoever you are.

Huh? What are you talking about? I'm using a Windows system and it's pretty easy to tell "G-ene" from "Gene".

although I am fond of free speech, a lot around here makes the cut for obscenity, Ian.

And in my opinion, if you started deleting the OBSCENE posts then this board would have some more respectibility.

You actually have a nice board here, and it would be even better if we didn't have all this foul sexual language and outright obscenity...

and people who impersonate others should be deleted as soon as caught-- it is confusing to read, and is basically cyberspace slander...

just my suggestions sir and I hope you'll forgive the intrusion.

Me too, foul language and all. I'm not going to presume to be the Arbiter of Obscenity (although that'd be a killer title on a business card).

and people who impersonate others should be deleted as soon as caught

How do you "delete" people coming in through an ISP with dynamic IP addressing (besides force-feeding cookies, which is easily hacked around)?

good question, Ian...

Re:

by the way, I am a HUGE Ian Astbury fan...

not that it makes any diff...

no, my thought is just delete the obscenity and the posts from people who impersonate regulars as you go...

if the board has a span of several hours before you get to it, oh well....Rome wasn't built in a day.

But when you find obscenity like that 'biker' post...just delete it.

Pretty soon, the higher level of acceptance becomes apparent.

Like I say, I really AM for free speech, as long as the SPEECH can stand on its own with merits.

But the flip side IS...that this board also represents your newspaper to some extent.

The board isn't at some unknown server in cyberspace, from which all ideas can spring and debate can resolve--

this board represents your newspaper, man.

Another angle is that people who are obscene and people who impersonate regulars can also help to DRIVE POTENTIAL POSTERS away...

and in my experience the ones they'll drive away first are the girls.

And since women typically seek points of connection, points they can commonly relate to, rather than points of debate and difference, that loss can be devastating to a board....the femme posters typically can disagree without being disagreeable.

Similar parallels to LIFE 101, huh?

Just like in Life, it's actually the Women who civilize Man.

Kinda strange huh?

As soon as the girls are let into the treehouse, they want to put up shades on the windows...

I guess I'm jes strange cuz I vote to let 'em in,

and let 'em do it...

we thought we built this thing so high they couldn't climb it...

it's pretty apparent they learned how to climb, boys...

we're still gonna drink as much whiskey anyway...

heck, let them in. :)

"Open up the window. Let some air into this room...
I think I'm always choking from the smell of stale perfume...
and that cigarette you're smoking...
it's scaring me half to death!
Open up the window someone,
let me catch my breath!"

Reminder: this is not the Singles Line.

Oh sure, I know, you "live in Memphis", but you're still looking for chicks to "connect" with. Oh sure, you're gonna say you want to "connect" on an "emotional" level. All that proves is your closet homosexuality.

I never said I was looking for that-- you just made it up.

Then you followed up with an insult.

I'm very much straight, thank you.

Both assumptions were wrong.

what the fuck are you rambling about? If your standard of free speech is substance then that silly ass post should be the first thing deleted, pal.

I am a dawg. Do not delete me. I am a distinct and different animal sharing a computer with my female owner (who pays for the internet access). If you delete me, I will sniff you out, poop in your yard, & then mail you a live cat.

To be honest I think the whole thing is really boringly obvious. Not name manipulation but just the text. I mean honestly...Suck Dick? I mean jeesh it's one thing to insult but can't we come up with a few other more interesting phrases? And the rather obvious overblown satire of Julia's writing sytle.

NOt that I would be condoning more deciet...no really I'm not...but honest to god could we at least get more creative hecklers?

Here's a fun idea. Instead of insinuating homosexual tendecies, let's insult people using hetrosexual turns.

Watch.

"Yeah, I bet you like sticking it in the rosebush."

"You want some of that kitten stuff don't ya?"

and the crem'e a la pie....

"Your straight. I mean god your straight. I bet you walk down the street with a tie and a briefcase and talkin' to your broker on your cell phone. Your soooo fuckin' straight. If you saw Mona Lisa you would just scartche your cropped head and say 'Is it marketable?'. Your so straight that you think deep tongue kissing in movies is subject to an R rating. Your so straight that when you hear poetry you count along to make sure it's the right meter."
