Forget the predictable stuff on the front page (Budget vetoed; Sundquist promised and alternative budget if he did that but hasn't provided one). The real story (from AP) is on page A16:"Some no-income tax states prospering: Three states without a personal income tax had the biggest increases in total tax revenue between 1999 and 2000. State tax revenue was up at least 57 percent in New Hampshire and Alaska and rose by 19 percent in Wyoming, a Census Bureau report released Friday found."
Hmm. Shouldn't this story have been on A6, where our own state tax stories carry over, rather than stuffed on A16 above a story on farm subsidies? It seems kind of relevant.

Agree on the stuffing, but as a point of order, Alaska may not be relevant in discussions of state budgets because they are an anomoly. They have no income tax and no sales tax, yet they have the highest per capita state revenues (like three times more than any other state) due to oil/pipeline royalty payments. In fact, at one point (and maybe still) the state actually paid the citizens who live there, like a reverse income tax.
