I was hoping he would sign it. He really badmouthed the Knox County senators yesterday. We have sent Tim Burchett and Marsha Blackburn thank you cards for standing against the income tax. Sundquist should change his name to Taxquist.

I'm proud of Sundquist for having the guts to do the right thing in the face of the knee jerk ignorance of the anti-tax sluts. These other clowns are playing to the ignorance vote - which means they may be in the majority but they aren't right. Tennessee needs to wake up to the fact that quality of life is a community issue and some things, like education, cost money and pay long term dividends. But as long as we having fools like Tim Burchett and Marsha Blackburn whoring themselves to clowns who think they are conservatives but don't know what the word really means, our prospects are dim indeed...

Thanks, X Fontaine, for providing us some insight into the quality of thought exhibited by the anti-tax reform mob.
Actually, as proposed with the reduction of sales tax and the elimination of tax on food, many would pay less in taxes. Some wouldn't.

The problem is, it's hard to believe promises that most people will pay less when they come from a man who first ran against the income tax, then said it would be "revenue neutral," then said it would raise more money, then said that if he vetoed the budget he'd provide one of his own, then vetoed the budget and provided no proposal of his own.

One would think that after 52 tax increases in 19 years, they would bring in enough money to finance the world. Goes to show we need people with discipline and spending reform, not tax reform.

Education eductation education - the income tax mantra. Look at the poor results we are getting for money we already spend on education. And how much revenue will an income tax raise? Two billion? Three billion? That won't fund more years of 17% increases in the five billion dollar Tenncare program. I am not opposed to an income tax, but it is not the magic bullet that will cure Tennessee's education or any other problems. We need some management who knows what they are doing. And somebody needs to figure out where the money is going, because we aren't getting our money's worth. And I for one do not want to pour more money down the drain or some corrupt politician's pocket. P.S. I ALREADY PAY INCOME TAXES IN TENNESSEE!! (due to some bullshit "HALL tax" that was kept secret until I moved here).

P.S. that 17% increase in TennCare is about the amount we are short in the current budget proposals. Why isn't anyone talking about that or looking in to what's going on there?

i think tenncare is more of a sacred cow than education. i mean, who wants to hurt sick and needy people, like who wants to hurt kids? it seems a lot like blackmail and extortion to me.

I agree with Bystander.Every time they discuss raising taxes they begin to talk about low test scores, school lunch programs, anything having to do with the lack of funding surrounding anything having to do with the schools. However, when the time comes to disperse funds education seems to be last on the list. I believe it's simply a ploy to try and get us to agree to pay more taxes. As for TennCare or as those of us dealing in Benefits and Compensation like to call it, TennCareLess, it's a joke! Would you really want to go to a doctor who has been sued for malpractice time and time again, been put on probation a few times for questionnable ethical decisions or has moved to practice in TN because he/she cannot practice anywhere else? Guess what, if you're using TennCare chances are that person could be treating you and/or your family. Again, you get what you pay for. However, I don't think that raising my taxes is going solve any of these problems. The whole structure and system needs a revamping...BAD! Where's all of our money going anyhow? Anybody know?

I went to that site. Very Informative! I emailed it to a lot of people on my address list.I would like to see how the money is distributed within the state based on the county/city:taxes paid by county/city tax payers. I think it would be nice to see how the state perceives where we live.
