When are bands going to stop having such silly names?

Well, we can't all be "The Band."

I completely agree. Let's get back to good old-fashioned sensible names like Pink Floyd and the Beatles and Bo Diddley.

That's what I'm saying. It's always been done and it should stop.

Um, why?

They should stop because I don't like it. I'm assuming you want them to continue because you do like it. That's the way the world works, isn't it?

There's a whole wide world of grey inbetween "totally silly" (such as "Frank McMuffin and the Bifurcated Fumtrussel") and "totally serious" (such as "Black Heart Procession"). All I have a problem with are the most totally silly names. Slightly silly is fine.

Black Heart Procession is "totally serious"? Why? 'Cause it has the word Black in it? What the hell is a black heart procession? I suppose you're going to tell me Godspeed You Black Emperor is totally serious too. How about Black Sabbath? Black Grape? Black Oak Arkansas? Blackfoot? Black Flag? Black Crowes? What about bands with White in the name: Whitesnake, White Lion, Great White, White Zombie? Serious or not? How can you tell?

Boy, did you drink too much coffee this morning or what?

For the record, yes, I do think "Godspeed You Black Emperor!" is a slightly silly name. However, I think you can discern the difference between names like you named and names like "Buster Wig Trout Fishing in My Anal Cavity".

To me, the word "Procession" is serious. If it isn't serious for you, that's fine too. I'm just giving my opinion here, not laying down Universal Law.

I bet your telephone smells like rotten 7-Up.

Bands I have been in:
Desert Ice (I know, I know -- look, it was the 80s and I was 15), Fear of Nebraska, the Empty Bottles, the Musty Merkins, the Iguana Rhythm Squad, Supermarket. All silly, I'm afraid.

I wonder if anyone has named their band "The Banned" yet?

My second band was called "Rock And Roll". I think that's probably as silly as you can get.
