Lewis Lucke had heard from his wife, Joy, and their friends in Texas that the news media's view of events in Iraq was bleak.
But the 52-year-old foreign service officer, who is directing the multibillion-dollar reconstruction of Iraq, wasn't really prepared for just how bleak when he returned home to Austin this week for a five-day visit, his first since May.
"There's just an incredible amount of productive stuff going on over there, with a lot of Iraqi participation," he said. "To come here and see it portrayed as a failure in the making -- it's very superficial and inaccurate."

Read the whole thing. We just keep getting these reports, from all sorts of observers. I think it's a major blow to media credibility.

From the flagship of the liberal media, an article that presents both the "incredible amount of productive stuff" and Iraqi discontent, the whole array of complex emotions and thoughts of Iraqis and their occupiers.

Weird. It's almost like runny is too retarded to recognize shades of gray, but normal people can see the complexities and middle ground. I know Democrats who are just like runny. Partisanship rots the mind.

Partisanship is great if you live in a vacuum, for example, if you post stuff on a forum, but never bother engaging people who respond, or if you have a TV/radio show where you can screen calls, cut mikes, and always get the last word.

Some would argue that attempting to capture reality in words or images always and unavoidably distorts it. Simpletons know how to get around sticky problems like that, though. You just insist on absolute truths.
