In answer to your poll question, I can tell you with all due certainty that ghosts DO EXIST. How do I know that? I've researched the topic enough, and I've seen evidence of it myself. I've never seen a ghost, but I've been in places that I KNOW are freakin' haunted. Shiloh and Chicamauga are two of them. In one of the towns I lived in, there are mansions that date to before the civil war. People were conceived in them, born in them, and people DIED in them. And there is no doubt that some of them are haunted. It's even common knowledge that they are.
But there are three types of hauntings that you may not know about. The first is an 'echo haunting'...where some event just repeats itself. Like a figure walking down some stairs, or soldiers walking in formation. It's an imprint into the fabric of time that won't just go away.
The second is a true blue GHOST. This kind of ghost can not and will not physically hurt you, but they are an active spirit within a house or an area. They like moving small objects like silverware, or windows and doors. Many people in the South who live in very old historic homes DO LIVE with a ghost, and they already KNOW they are living with a ghost, and they adapt TO it. It's not as weird as you might think.

The third type of ghost is one you won't probably ever run across, and parapsychologists say it is less than 3% of all hauntings, but THIS one is the famous one. It's an evil spirit. It has serious issues, and is a dangerous entity, and supposedly it CAN actually hurt people. But it's so rare that very, very few people will ever encounter one. It's almost unheard of, actually. Charles Edwin Price wrote a book called Haunted Tennessee, which you can find at your local library.
You can do your own research at the library and on the internet if you are interested, and in the end you will come to the conclusion that they do exist. You are right in saying that it IS an evidence of some type of afterlife, but then so are near death experiences. There are sceptics who will deride people for saying that these things exist, and they get a pretty good laugh at the believer's expense. And that is fine. I'm sure some folks will mock ME for what I wrote here. That's OK.
I once visited Alcatraz in 1991. I walked into the EXACT cell where Al Capone spent like 14 years of his life. I walked all over the prison, and there is no doubt in my mind WHAT SO FREAKIN EVER... that Alcatraz is haunted.
There is nothing 'frightening' about the subject to me because I know folks who live in a house they already know is haunted. And I have no unordinary fascination with them either. They exist in a periphery of interesting areas in all of our lives, and each one of us should consider our lives....because life is passing by. You'll never have the Summer of 2003 again. It's gone, not just for a moment, but for all eternity. You'll never be as young as you were three summers ago, and neither will I. And as Halloween approaches, this is a good time to think about what goes bump in the night. You said you want to be a writer-- there are thousands of themes writers involve themselves with....
