Does anyone have any idea where I can get information on historic homes or other building. I read an article about Euginia Williams, who built the house at 4848 Lyons View. It was very interesting, but I would love to see inside it. Probably wont happen, unless I feel like scaling the wall and breaking in. Not really my style. anyway, if you have any info I would appreciate it.

The house, designed by architect John F. Staub (who also designed Hopecote on the UT campus - he was a prominent Houston architect in the 20's-40's) was deeded to UT by the Williams Estate on the condition that the property could not be developed or sold. Bit of a gift horse - the house is in rough shape, Knox Heritage sponsored a tour awhile back.

There was some talk, several years ago, of raising private funds to restore the house as the President's residence. Those plans have well...you know...

There is a good book on john Staub and his work, probably can be found at the Knoxville library.

When they were built, the people that built them. Social status of the people who built them. Pictures and / or floor plans. Descriptions, etc.

City directories can be found at the McClung collection of the Knox County Library system at the East Tennessee Historic Society. They would include some of the information you're looking for.
