I just read the Eye on the Scene mention of Donald Brown's NYC gig at Julliard coming up in a few weeks. It reminded me of something: A couple of weeks or so in the Sunday New York Times Arts & Leisure, they previewed the major upcoming arts and music events for the season - movies, theatre, CD releases, concerts, exhibitions, etc. Among them was Donald Brown's concert. They wrote something to the effect of "the great jazz pianist makes a rare New York appearance." Just a reminder of how nice it is to have him in town.

when they first talked about doing this...well, let's just say that their pricing structure didn't have playing Knoxville in mind. I just sent an email to see what's up. We've nearly had Iggy back in town on a couple of occasions, but it always fell through for one reason or another. I'll try again.

What about the Flaming Lips? I heard at one time you were trying to get them in Blue Cats after the upstairs was complete?

Not exactly...the Flaming Lips wouldn't fit into Blue Cats for numerous reasons. We were considering an outdoor gig, possibly at the Old City Courtyard. It didn't happen for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the Lips' touring plans changed for the fall when they were added to Chili Peppers tour.
