Sounds of home

After having grown up in Knoxville and its environs and then leaving over 20 years ago, I find that one of the things I miss most is the music of the language of home. I've lived all over the US, in several foreign countries, been exposed to accents of all types, but there is none like the one I grea up hearing. I sit here listening to a television show taped in Nashville and the people's accents remind me of my roots and a longing for the people and the life I left so long ago becomes an almost palpable thing.
Man - I miss home and the people there. There really is no place like home. 20 months....

Be well,
lilamy

I had the same thing happen, so I focused on getting those sounds out of my banjo in order to hear them whenever I feel like it.

Try learning to sing a song Wayfaring stranger or Will the Circle would be a good choice. Just the chorus is enough to satisfy me but there is plenty more to them

Will The Circle Be Unbroken Lyrics:

I was standing by my window,
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

I said to that undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord, I hate to see here go

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

I went back home, my home was lonesome
Missed my mother, she was gone
All of my brothers, sisters crying
What a home so sad and lone

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

We sang the songs of childhood
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that mother maybelle taught us
Hear the angels sing along

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
Theres a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky
