YORK, Pa. — A jury is to hear opening arguments Tuesday in the trial of a Baptist minister accused along with his followers of displaying pictures of aborted fetuses at a Halloween parade.
The Rev. James Grove, the pastor of Heritage Baptist Church in Loganville, is acting as his own attorney in his misdemeanor trial in York County Common Pleas Court. Grove is charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, harassment and two parade permit violations.
He and his followers allegedly displayed 3-by-5 foot pictures of dismembered aborted fetuses and anti-abortion signs at the 2002 Halloween parade in York.
Grove asked Judge Sheryl Ann Dorney Monday to dismiss the charges against him. The request was denied, as was a bid to allow the national director of the Street Preachers' Fellowship to testify on Grove's behalf.
