DUH! The whole POINT was to remove Saddam and them help them start their non-violence/fear driven leadership. Or did you miss the the first four hundred times?

Silly boy, that wasn't the point. The point was to show off American muscle and will and self-suffiency (and instead, of course, we've demonstrated the limitations of all of the above); and to test out Rumsfeld's "limited war" theories, which are also looking plenty dubious; and to secure an American presence in a strategic region ("strategic" mostly because of its oil reserves, unless you think our geopolitical planners are sincerely interested in Middle Eastern culture, agriculture, or industry) without all the headaches of dealing with Saudi Arabia; and also to secure American corporate access to the region, both through oil contracts and through all of Halliburton and co's service contracts.I do think it's funny how none of the apologists even mention WMDs anymore, and Rumsfeld acts like people are talking crazy when they even ask him about them. But anyway, Operation Iraqi Freedom or whatever it's called was always about any- and everything but Iraqi Freedom. Iraqi freedom is a side effect, and a welcome one -- and it is possible that, because we're not nearly as big or tough or self-sufficient as our ideologues thought, the net result will indeed be an internationally brokered movement toward real Iraqi independence and maybe even democracy, and that would be a great thing. But that's not why we did this, and it's not even what we're trying to do right now, except as circumstances beyond our control compel us to. I'm not a total pessimist, I think some good can and will come of all of it. But it was done badly, for bad reasons, by liars and deluded egomaniacs, and the sooner we're rid of the liars and deluded egomaniacs, the better. Ever since I read Kenneth Pollack's case for invading Iraq in Foreign Affairs almost two years ago, I was convinced of two things: that there might be a good case for taking action against Iraq, if it were done well for the right reasons; and that the Bush administration was completely incapable of either doing it well or for the right reasons. I never believed a word they said about any of it, the WMDs, the connections with al-qaida, their concern for Iraqi citizens (if they were so goddamn concerned for Iraqi citizens, why did the exact same crew help keep him in power for so long, even after every civil and human rights group in the world had detailed his killing and torturing?). My views haven't changed a bit. I still don't believe a word they say.

typical response from an uniformed source. If you hate it here so much, go there and live. I don't recall government rape gangs here, or shutting off power to your neighborhood because you dis agree with the government. But then, I live in the real world, visit us sometime.

ah, again with the "if you dont like it here, then leave" defense. wow didnt seem that one coming. you claimed that they wanted a "fear driven leadership", i called you on it, and this is all you have to respond with? damn you bushboys are so predicatable. better adapt your arguements and not get so flustered just because someone took you to task.

Hitchens and Hannity had it right yesterday. Things are on the upswing in the north, and we are revising our assumptions as circumstances warrant their revision. Remember, Edison tried 10,000 versions of the light bulb before he got the filament right. Democracy is a continuous laboratory of experimentation, evaluation and calibration.

Just answer the bloody question:A> Al Qaeda? (the catch all terrorist finger target) B> Saddam Loyalists? (unless they were and are paid handsomely, very few) or C> Iraqi Citizens, who are growing in numbers, who are Resisting Occupation? Answer, as if you were in their shoes, please.

They ALL are Werewolves! An Iraqi citizen who opposes our continued occupation is, by your definition, a Werewolf? Do the Iraqi's owe us cheap Oil, now that we've liberated them?

And we can continue to fine-tune our democratic experiment when we oust Bush and his corporate cronies in '04 and put in a man or woman of the people.
