Haslam built it. He heard back in '82 that Metropulse was going to endorse him so he built it as a "thank you" to Knoxville finally getting a media owner with some balls.

My uncle, Chris Evans, is an architect who had his office right beside the dome. I know he knew the people building the dome (my mom says it was Daryl Allison, of Allison Boat Company) Chris Evans still has an office on down Alcoa Highway towards Alcoa. Hope this helps you!

You're welcome. My uncle would be able to tell you probably anything you needed to know, if you can get ahold of him. He is in the phone book.

Two domes were constructed in '82 by the same company. One at the World's Fair, the other being the one on Alcoa Highway. The Alcoa Highway location was to be the commercial showcase and offices for the company during the fair. I don't recollect the company name. ~m.

I could be mis-remembering but it seems like it was built to house the contractor that constructed it. They built that one for their offices and offered to their expertise in constructing them for any and all interested. They're name? I have no idea but I suspect they went out of business and that was 15 or 20 years ago.
