I didn't say we shouldn't spend the money. Having invaded the country, we've taken a lot of responsibility on ourselves, so I think we have a real obligation to get things stabilized. I just thought the chart was a handy reminder of what doofus and the Wonder Boy Neocons got us into -- and what's suffering here as a result.

Yes and if you notice that tax break Bush gave his rich buddies would more than cover the cost. Why isn't he asking the rich who overwhelmingly benefit from the tax cut to make some sacrifices?

Education suffers only because it is allowed to. When the military suffered the results of Graham/Rudman ( an attempt by pussies to gut the military ability to protect this country) none of that money went to education. It lined pockets. As for us, we received a token pay raise (about 1/3 the inflation rate) and a LARGE amount of our Morale, Welfare and Recreation services. We also lost day care and other much needed resources. Yes, we now started to have to pay minimum wage for a siiter instead of a dollar per child per hour, which was an added expense that we could not make up in any type of pay raise. Education suffers because the vast majority of parents want the schools to raise their kids. UT football seems to not suffer in the face of "drastic measures" to jhelp the university.
So, although your statement is valid in other contexts, here it is out of place and irrelevant. How about Congress NOT taking a pay raise, or better yet, a pay CUT? Or any of the myriads of other cash cows. But hey, at least we can drag our feet on the lottery thing until all our resources are too far gone and then we can claim that it didn't work.

I agree that the servicepersons are woefully under-paid and ill-treated in general. Unfortunately, big bucks get squandered on glory projects (SDI) while the backbone of the nation's defence gets shat upon.

I'm with ya on a lot of that ... maybe most of that. Especially the congressional pay cuts part. Rich people are paid way too much already. But there's a lot of issues packed into a small area in that post.
I think we're talking in different angles maybe. I was thinking in terms of the chart jfm posted, as far as education budgeting goes.

Don't be ridiculous. Bush has been given a 'pass' for far too long. I'm tired of him using the murdered souls of 9/11 and the honor of our military forces for his own political cover. It was obvious Bush was an idiot before 9/11, and it's obvious he still is now. I'm glad at least some in Congress and some in the press are beginning to depart from Bush's Political Correctness of the Right.

You can support the troops without pretending Bush is a good President.
