I listened to this guy talk on the talk show "On point", and he realy does sound good, he made the statement that we need regualtions on Nafta.

He not only has taken graduate courses in economics, he has taught economics at the college level.

Overall I was impressed... more research is neaded

I would love to see him and George Bush in a debate he'd squash ol stuttering, pause, stutter, pause George

"I would love to see him and George Bush in a debate he'd squash ol stuttering, pause, stutter, pause George"

he would make a great candidate, seeing as that all of the ammo that repubs use on dems(soft on military, "unpatriotic", economics) would be useless on this guy. they are probably already shaking their heads on this one. im sure hes making a few folks nervous.

I'm all for Clark running. A combo of Clark/Dean could be a formidable team to challenge Shrubya and Co.

Clark scares me because he has actually publicly stated that "America was founded on the principal of progressive taxation." In fact, he continues to make that assertion, I guess hoping that the majority of Americans will not realize that that particular concept was introduced to the world by Marx and Engels in their Communist Manifesto. (For the most part, he's right on the money, there.) Not only that, but the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a progressive income tax was unconstitutional (that was before the 16th Amendment).

If Wesley Clark is confused between the U.S. Constitution and the Communist Manifesto, I don't think he's the right choice for ANY Democratic Republic, much less this one.

Clark will run, and he will get the Democratic nomination. Kerry, Dean and the others have had trouble raising money from big Democratic funders because the big guns are waiting for Clark to announce, which he will do later this month.

For those who want someone who can win, Clark is the guy. Clark trumps Bush's "strengths," and can clobber Bush in his many weak areas. He's a Vietnam Veteran with bullet wounds and a purple heart, and was Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, who managed the successful Kosovo war, where there were no allied casualties, minimal "collateral" casualties, and where the liberated people are already doing well establishing democratic governance. Oh, and it seems Milosevic, the villain in that scenario, has been captured and put on trial for war crimes. Clark was critical of Bush's poor diplomacy going into Iraq, and also of Bush's lack of planning for managing the 'peace' after the war. His critique has proven extremely accurate.

As for the primary, Clark trumps Kerry's veteran status, and is far more articulate (and better informed) than Dean in his criticisms of the Bush mishandlings of Iraq/ the economy/ you name it.

Clark's tenure in the European theater has given him considerable experience dealing with multiple chains of command (NATO/Pentagon/State Department), as well as conducting foreign policy activities in delicate, complicated situations. Unlike the current President, Clark is well respected by our allies.

Clark is left of center, but moderate. As a clean-cut, decorated, retired four-star general, Clark defies the Limbaugh ditto-heads' characterization of Democrats and liberals and wild-eyed, pot-smoking crazies.

I've been studying the guy, reading his book, and looking for a reason not to enthusiastically support him. So far, that search has not been successful.

Clark can come in and dominate the primaries, and he can run as a strong candidate against Bush.

Most importantly, I think he'll make a competent and decisive President, which will be a relief after the walking disaster that currently occupies the White House.

for the first time since ive been old enough to vote, im actually excited about a candidate, i.e., Clark. i think he encompasses the best of many platforms, though to be honest their are some areas i havent heard him speak on yet. but on the broader, wide-sweeping topics hes got my vote. i truly think he is the only one who can defeat Bush. the rest of the candidates are either too "yankee", liberal or wussy. yeah, im a yank now too, but i know you cant win the southern states with a yank. if Clark wins the nomination i will actively support him. hell id even love to see him be a vice. whats the name of his book? id like to pick it up. and LilAmy, if you are around still, whats your take on this guy?

Fluffy, he sounds like a really strong candidate. I agree with many of the posters concerning his impressive record and he looks great as far as the cursory inspection of his credentials goes.
Like most folks who speak from high places, he speaks pretty words. Maybe he will know how to finish what GWB started in Iraq and can make it good. Perhaps he has a lot of experience dealing with the heads of state in Europe. But then again... what about the domestic side? Economy, unemployment, health care.... this is a multidimensional thing and I'm seeing only a few dimensions mentioned so far.
It will be very interesting to see how the next few months unfold as pertains to out Pres candidates.

Be well,
lilamy

Hello lilamy:

I'm waiting for the evil side of this guy to come out myself, but other than be a military guy, he seems to measure up.

He studied economics at the graduate level at, He holds a Masters Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. On top of that has two brothers who are unemployed due to the economy. He's actualy taught econamics can you imagine George Bush in debate against this fellow. My bet is that if he runs there will be no debates lol.

He sounds good on all issues I'm willing to give him a go, gotta do a bit of research, but he's the best sounding man I've heard in my lifetime.

As a retired top-ranking general, you'll find Clark has experience with large budgets and with managing large organizations. Clark managed not only soldiers and officers, but also the support for their families, like schools and housing. Clark was a proponent of taking proper care of the families of the forces he commanded. I don't think you'll find him to be unfamiliar with issues that land on the domestic side of the job of President.

If it was only that simple !!

Are the citizens uf the US going to put a Dem congress in place to provide the best chance for effecting change or will we be stuck with a Dem pres and a Repub congress where nothing gets done?

The Pres is a part - but it takes more than that. It takes us... all of us.

I wonder what percentage of elegible voters will vote in the next election?

Be well,
lilamy

I think it makes for a balanced government when we have people from both parties. If congress is Rep historically we elect a Democrat and vice versa

I don't see him getting the nomination, but he'd be an interesting VP choice. It would make it a lot harder to hit the Dems as "soft on terror" with a guy in a general's uniform on the ticket. Plus, he's Southern, so if the Dem nominee is a Yankee like Dean or Kerry, he would provide that ol' geographic balance.

Kucinich. Congressman from Cleveland. A true-blue left-winger. I think he's wrong about NAFTA, though. Free trade is a really complicated issue, but I don't think the answer is to try to stop it. First of all, it's a losing cause -- the history of human civilization is the advancement of free trade, by hook or crook (and usually both). Second, not all of the arguments in favor of free trade are total bullshit. Poorer countries really do need access to global markets and capital investment. You just have to strike a lot of balances. The tendency of the richer countries is always to demand access to poor countries' markets, and then flood them, while at the same time protecting their own markets (for example, we've globalized manufacturing, which means corporations can take advantage of cheap labor and lax environmental laws in poorer countries, but the U.S. and Europe and Japan maintain agricultural subsidies that make it impossible for poorer countries to compete for agricultural markets).

I agree that the idea of NAFTA is a good idea(some people say the same thing about Marxism), however it's use so far has been as you stated for cheap labor.

In my opinion it needs to be reworked to provide protections for workers around the world recieving fair wages for there work. We basically need to unionize the world in order for NAFTA to work for the people and not just for the rich.

You know we the people...

Not: We the corporations....
