last week's issue of Newsweek had a big spread on the blackout that happened, but the underlying message was about the blame game over whose fault the fiasco was. we are a nation of blamers. if its not france, its canada. if its not the repubs, its the dems. if its not your bosses fault, it must be your co-workers. i do think that being the biggest superpower on the world has caused us to be a nation of fingerpointers, though i dont know why. if youve got everything, why complain? i think it has to do in part to boredom maybe. we have everything, now what? kind of like spolied teenagers that get everything handed to them, and then go out and get in trouble-its something to do, any attention is good attention. we have nothing more to strive for, yet we are in constant need of reaffirmation that we are alive. so we bitch and moan and blame, even though there are other nations much worse off then we are that have just learned to suck it up and move on, and yet WE are the brats of the planet. blaming is always easier then taking resonsibility. and just like those spoiled teenagers, its always easier to point the finger at others than ourselves. of course, we also have the biggest fingerpointer in the highest office in the land, so that doesnt help. if just for once a politican took responsibility for their actions and admitting they were wrong instead of trudging along with their head in the sand...sigh, but i digress..

Good one, fluffy! You wrote an entire post about taking responsibility (never mind that you've entirely blamed America for all existant problems in your post) and stop the blaming of everyone else, e.g. the "repubs, the dems, our boss, our co-workers." Shouldn't your post have read more like: "I will stop blaming everyone else and take responsibility for myself"? Wouldn't that be more to the point than blaming the nation in general? The problem with the liberal mindset is that it sees people in terms of the group, not the individual. It simply wouldn't occur to you to ever say "I am responsible" because you can't conceive of individualism. It would, however, occur to you to think in the broad categories of "us" and "the collective." Then, just as it's about to end, of course you can't help but blame George W. Bush. At least you're holding true to form, you fingerpointer.

Wouldn't that be more to the point than blaming the nation in general?" the point was not that our nation was to blame, its that we are a nation of blamers. learn to comprehend. the rest of your post shows you have trouble with that.

Jesus, though -- when the entire Eastern seaboard loses electricity, something happened. Blackouts don't just happen. Spaceships don't just fall apart. The investigations might lead to scapegoating, but I'd rather have them than not. I don't expect life to be free of inconvenience. Bad shit will happen, even when it's not supposed to. Trying to find out why isn't being whiny.
