Mourning lost clubs in Knoxville is akin having way to many relatives. After a while the feelings get mixed and the names change over to mere ad slogans. Ivey's shut herself down the other night and frankly I'm a bit peeved.

Knoxville has a good selection of music venues that's a given. But what it lacks in serious quanity is a all ages venue. There's Java in the Old City, Prince's Deli, and once upon a time it was Ivey's but hell that changed fast.

Ivey's impressed me via clientele as much as via performers. Proto punks, rednecks, large motorcycle men with handlebar mustaches, and a few goths had been known to hang out. They way the clientele moved was another biggie. Ivey's was the only club I knew that actually encouraged moshing. We're not talking safety moshing here I'm talking table turning break necking floor mateing moshing pit hell fire.

It was a freaks place. The last night had a fetish performance in the game room while various punk rock metal thrash bands played in the front. Mowhawks and mullets, mowhawks and mullets it's all the same hairstyle. Loud music from those speakers sent the world into a contortion of sight. I'm still sound reeling from Social Overcast/Alter Ego's set.

And this is the final blow. I know for a fact that Knoxville is becoming a town for No Depression style Americana. And that's for somebody I suppose. And they have some great lyrics every now and again. But increasingly I find it difficult to find a club that just want to let it all rock out hang out flip out bleed.

Here's to Ivey's, another dead relative.

Toby Keith is a thief, stealing Terry Landell's moniker and Willie Nelson's virginity

Old man loss it but still kept his boots on

Shania wants to know whose bed your boots have been under

Well now you know

Chalk up another closed Knox Gothic hang out.

There is a message in there somewhere.

Maybe they'll start hanging out in their parent's basement.

It's the only sane option.

actually those little middle school high school kids who played in the all ages shows played better (instrumental ability) than a lot of bands that get booked at pilot light/blue cats. i thought is was commendable of the establishment to provide a place for kids who had been playing their little hearts out in garages all over knoxville/johnson city/maryville to actaully play on stage in front of a crowd. a little stage play practice for them until they are old enough to play at other venues. i appreciate that.

cool musical discussion!

Instrumental ability I'm rather iffy about. I think the youngsters played more experimentally and agreesively then their older counterparts. They had more thought toward the kick and pow of rock.

That's what I miss the most about Ivey's. It was by far the most action packed venue in Knoxville. They were so much into the go go go part of things. I don't know if people just don't rock as hard after thirty but...

But wouldn't it be hard to hang out where you live? Plus, I don't think doublewides have basments.
