It was a given. Jon Goode, the Lowell Spinners public relations man who hatched the idea for the Jack Kerouac bobblehead doll, knew the bauble would wind up on the king of collectors markets, eBay.
"Oh, within hours," he predicted last Thursday, before the first 1,000 ticketholders had lined up hours in advance to nab free dolls on the way in to the game.
The handouts were gone within 10 minutes. A few grabbed their freebie and walking right out the gates again, skipping the Spinners game.
Sure enough, less than three hours later, the bobbleheads began popping up for sale on eBay, the online marketplace.
As of late yesterday afternoon, 13 bobblehead auctions were ongoing on eBay. Ten had been completed, drawing a total of $1,585.99, or an average of $158.60 per doll. The lowest bid on active items began at $20, while one auction nearing its end began at $499, and hadn't drawn a single bid.
