We are here. We are safe and fundamentally sound, if very tired. One heck of storm last night and today is a balmy 72 degrees. The cable modem is hooked up, there is cold beer in the fridge, and life is good.

More later.

Note to J. Wright: there is a super Wal-Mart and I have already been there twice in the last 24 hours.

Glad to hear you arrived safely - and excellent goodbye column.

Just one quibble. You quote JFK - but he was quoting the Bible. Luke, Chapter 12, verse 48, King James Version, attributes these words to Jesus: "for unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required."

Thanks. It was 50 degrees this morning. This is going to take some getting used to.

I honestly wasn't sure who to attribute the quote to--every search I did turned up a different person, most of whom credited JFK--but I appreciate your astute eyes.

That's what happens when you grow up Southern Baptist in Tennessee. I haven't been inside a SB church in 20 years, but ya don't want to go up against me in the "Bible" category of Jeopardy.
